INTRODUCTION

It was reported by National IoT Strategic Roadmap, the initial economic potential for IoT for Malaysia will be seen by the creation of RM9.5 billion in GNI by 2020. This is expected to continue to grow at an exponential rate, reaching in excess of RM 42.5 billion in the near future. Additional technology opportunities that would be created by IoT in Malaysia is forecasted to be:

  • Application and services amounting to RM 34 billion by 2025, and
  • Device production at RM1.0 billion and RM4.3 billion for 2020 and 2025 respectively.

Based on the above projections, it can be seen that IoT will be a crucial part of the economy, and as such it is crucial that the right talents be nurtured to manage & understand the various implementation of IoT by 2025. Major impacts will also be felt within the telecommunications industry, as they provide the backbone for both wired and wireless communications, which is a crucial element of IoT.

Currently, there is a significant gap in the IoT & Big data talent pools to be able to tackle these huge opportunities & create the next generation of talents. As such, this course focuses at the management level & helps managers to understand the needs for future IoT implementation within an organization and to plan accordingly.
