• Eng Hooi is an author, learning & development practitioner and executive coach. He is a former headof organization development and global master coach for a major technology firm in Asia, where his key mandate is to develop talents and learning strategies for organizational development and also to create a coaching culture for future growth.

 

• He is also a Global Master Coach. Previously, he was co- leading global coaching task forces. He and his team have designed and rolled out a series of coaching initiatives and certification programs for all the leaders regionally and globally.

 

• In a local context, Eng Hooi has led multiple functions in HR such as learning and development, talent management, as an HR business partner, employee engagement, employer branding, and HR innovation and digitization.

 

• He is an author of his first a book “Building a Sustainable Coaching Culture, A Step-By-Step Guide to Coaching Culture Implementation” and he believes coaching is the key enabler to achieving business success. He is also a professional certified coach (PCC, ICF), a certified trainer, diversity and inclusion facilitator, and has more than fifteen years of corporate working experience as well as consulting experience

OBJECTIVES
The “Leader as Coach” course is designed with the purpose to develop People Manager with 5 coaching competencies and GROW models that will help them to be more successful in their organization. This course provides ICF Coaching concepts, tools and process to harness their leadership skills and capabilities.

MODULE 1 : SOFT START – WHY COACHING?

Facilitators focus on creating interactive brainstorming session where participants free to share what, when, where and how in coaching delivery.

MODULE 2 : COACHING READINESS

In a coaching-friendly environment, coaching spreads beyond one-on-one sessions, and becomes part of your team’s learning culture. Your team feels comfortable discussing any challenges they face, as well as seeking input from you and other team members.
Brief assessment will be used to evaluate your coaching climate & your listening skill.

MODULE 3 : TYPE OF COACHING & BALANCE TELLING & ASKING

Coaching become simple to understand when the facilitator shares type of coaching. Coaching can be a balancing act between telling & asking. Asking encouraging people to think through situations themselves and to formulate their own ideas— and telling—sharing your experience, insights, and ideas.

MODULE 4 : COACHING THROUGH 5 COMPETENCIES

This session will be an introduction to 5 Coaching Competencies. Each Competencies will be taught through supervised coaching role play, case studies, written exercise and feedback giving.

Paired role play session will be facilitated to encourage application of the 5 coaching competencies. Facilitator will wrap the day 1 learning as well.

OPENING & RECAP

MODULE 1: REVISION ON 5 COACHING COMPETENCIES


This session allows participants to share their challenges, doubts & concern during their coaching practice in workplace and the facilitators will be clarifying the
challenges.


 

MODULE 2 : SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Identify the concepts in this lesson that most apply to you and your situation. By more closely examining your situation, you can determine which areas to focus on when practicing new skills in your workplace.

MODULE 3 : GROW MODEL Facilitator introduces GROW model.

Goal – Identify Coaching Goal or Issue to be solved.
Reality – Find out action taken, challenges, obstacles & elicits. Self-limiting beliefs, biases, conflicting values and purpose.
Options – Barnstorming possible solution.
Way Forward – Create Game Plan and specific tracking measurement.

MODULE 4 : PRACTICE, LEARN & SHARE

In this session, the facilitator will “role play” with the participants with the intention of demonstrating the “GROW” model. 3 guidelines will be introduced
during the coaching interaction.

MODULE 5 : MEETING “HEART” NEED & “HEAD” NEED

When coaching your team members, you’ll find they have “Heart” needs and “Head” needs they’ve brought to the discussion, such as establishing an action
plan or moving forward. They also have ‘heart” needs moment, such as to be
listened to, to be involved and understood and to feel that managers are
supporting them.

MODULE 6 : GIVING STAR FEEDBACK

STAR Feedback tools helps you deliver more effective feedback. It focuses your comments on specific situation and
behaviours and then outlines the impact that these behaviours have on others.

 

MODULE 7 : COACHING PRACTICE

Paired role play session will be facilitated to encourage application of the 5 coaching competencies. Facilitator will wrap the day 1 learning as well.
