JEREMY M JOSEPH
Jeremy M. Joseph is the Principal Partner at Joseph and Partners, a reputable Malaysian law firm specialising in maritime and commercial cases. He has been recognized by Legal 500 and Chambers Asia for 15 years as a Band 1 shipping lawyer.

 

Jeremy received a British Chevening Scholarship in 1996 and completed his Master of Law from the University of Southampton in 1997. He also holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK.

 

Jeremy started his career as a marine insurance broker and worked as an Associate in Holman Fenwick & Willan Singapore and later in the Malaysian-associated office of Joseph Tan Jude Benny LLP before founding Joseph and Partners in 2010. His firm has won several awards, including “Shipping Law Firm of the Year” from 2014- 2016. In 2018, his firm handled many landmark maritime and insurance cases, including the high-profile arrest and sale of the superyacht Equanimity. He has also contributed to legal publications and presented at conferences worldwide.

Prof Dr Irwin Ooi Ui Joo, Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam

 

Dr Irwin Ooi Ui Joo is currently a Professor of Maritime and Transport Law at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Before returning to Malaysia in 2001, he was at the Department of Maritime Studies and International Transport, at the University of Wales, Cardiff, for almost a decade. He is the author of multiple volumes of Halsbury Laws of Malaysia on various aspects of Maritime, Shipping, Transport and Insurance Law. He has been consulted by various Ministries, multinational companies and international organisations (such as the OECD, ASEAN, ARISE Plus and UNESCAP) on maritime, shipping, trade and competition law issues. In addition to his involvement on the Editorial Boards of several international law and maritime business journals, Dr Ooi finds the time to write web articles for the International Malaysian Society of Maritime Law (IMSML) and also contributes as the Coach of UiTM’s various Moot Teams.

 

He describes himself as a logistician who dabbles in laws governing the logistics and supply chain. Dr Ooi is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (Selangor Section). He also confesses to being a ‘tree-hugger’ and is one of the founding members of the Malaysian Association for the Public Advocacy of Nature (MAPAN).

 

Dr Ooi currently teaches Opinion Writing (full time) at UiTM and Carriage of Good by Sea (part time) at UM.
